Researcher – Head of Division

Diego Stéfani Teodoro Martinez

Head of the Nanotoxicology and Nanobiotechnology Division at LNNano/CNPEM. Graduated in Biological Sciences in 2003 by the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul – UFMS, Master in Functional and Molecular Biology (Biochemistry) in 2006 by the State University of Campinas – UNICAMP and Doctor of Science (Chemistry) in 2011 by UNICAMP with internship at the Center for BioNano Interactions, University College Dublin – UCD, Ireland. He held a postdoctoral degree in 2013 at UNICAMP at the National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation in Functional Complex Materials (INCT-Inomat) and the National Network of Nanotoxicology (Cigenanotox). From 2019 to 2020 he was Visiting Researcher at the University of Birmingham – UoB, England (Environmental Nanoscience group, NanoCommons platform and European Nanosafety Cluster). He participates in national and international scientific cooperation networks involving biotechnological and environmental applications of nanostructured materials, nanotoxicology and nanosafety. His main research interest is the integrated study of the effects of nanomaterials on biological systems (biomolecules, cells and organisms), characterization of the nanobiointerface and nanotoxicity, and their implications for public health, environment and regulations. It develops technological projects for the harmonization of protocols and data management using nanoinformatics tools, aiming at the safe development and responsible innovation of nanotechnologies and new advanced materials (safe-by-design). He is currently a research productivity fellow at CNPq.
