Researcher

Murilo Santhiago

Federal University of Santa Catarina graduate, with experience in the area of electrochemical biosensors. PhD in Chemistry (2014) and postdoctoral fellowship (2015) at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), where he developed research at the Institute of Chemistry. During his MSc studies, he dedicated 2 years of research in the construction of nanostructured platforms on conventional electrodes for numerous applications. During his doctorate, he developed flexible paper-based devices with electrochemical detection for fast, simple and low-cost analysis. As a PhD student, he did an internship at Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins – CO, USA, manufacturing and characterizing miniaturized flexible electrochemical devices. During his postdoctoral fellowships, he diversified his lines of research, working mainly with microfluidic devices and investigating the electrochemical properties of graphene oxide. In 2019, he was a visiting researcher at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga, Portugal, working with electrocatalysts supported on flexible arrays. He currently works with flexible electrochemical and electronic devices based on cellulose, 2D materials and surface nanofunctionalization processes. He is one of the co-inventors of the patented technology known as “bambootronics”. In 2020, he had a project funded by the Serrapilheira Institute to study chemical defects in two-dimensional materials.
